How we make normal products smart

Three steps, and an ordinary heater becomes a climate device.

The Smart Power Board is the bridge. Anything you can plug into a wall can be automated by the app — no smart plug of its own, no hub of its own, no compatibility list to check.

Plug it in

Your existing heater, circulation fan, humidifier, dehumidifier, pump or grow light goes into any socket on the board.

Name the socket

Label it in the app so you always know what socket 03 actually is — no more guessing which outlet runs what.

Give it a job

Pick from Heating, Ventilation, Circulation, Humidify, Dehumidify, Grow Light or Pump, and assign it to a zone. That’s it — Sunny takes it from there.

What that unlocks: the moment a socket has a job and a zone, it stops being an outlet and starts being equipment. Sunny drives it against your plants’ measured ranges, it appears in the activity log with reasons, it gets a weekly schedule, and its running cost shows up in the electricity report.

Getting connected

Bluetooth discovery

Put a device in pairing mode and it shows up on its own. Tap it, pick the zone, done.

Pair by Wi-Fi

Some devices never advertise over Bluetooth, so a scan will never find them — the reason people end up in a generic app picking a category from a list. We broadcast your Wi-Fi credentials to the blinking device instead. No category picking.

Gateway sub-devices

Battery valves and long-range sensors that talk to a hub rather than your router are picked up through the gateway automatically.

And it works out what the device actually is. Hardware is often mislabelled by its manufacturer — our electric window opener reports itself as a contact sensor. Rather than trust the label, the app reads what the device can actually do and gives it the right controls: that opener gets a proper Open / Stop / Close panel. Where two devices are genuinely identical underneath, you decide which it is, and the choice sticks.

Real controls, not raw data

Every device gets a panel built for it.

Zones

One greenhouse. As many climates as you need.

Split a house into zones and put crops in each. Devices belong to a zone, so the tomatoes at one end can run warmer and drier than the lettuce at the other — under the same roof, at the same time.

Anything not assigned to a zone still gets looked after by greenhouse-wide care, so nothing falls through the cracks. Steel buildings work the same way, organised by room.

Snow & wind engineering

Detects your location, finds your snow zone, and runs the same exposure and thermal-adjusted load maths our engineers use — including the wind loading that sizes your ground anchors.

Compare against anyone

Enter a competitor’s dimensions and pipe specs. The app calculates the load that structure is genuinely rated for, finds the closest Sun & Steel equivalent, and puts them side by side.

Grants & funding finder

Answer a few questions about your location and operation and the app matches you to the agricultural programs you may qualify for, then walks you through the application.

Running costs

See what it costs to run — socket by socket.

The app estimates monthly electricity per outlet, based on what each one is and how long Sunny actually runs it. So the heater, the fans and the lights each carry their own number instead of one mystery bill.

Econ mode widens the comfort bands slightly and rests the circulation fan when conditions are already fine — your plants stay inside their tolerance, your equipment runs less.
