Meet Sunny

Sunny knows what your plants need. All 2,894 of them.

Sunny is the automation brain inside every Sun & Steel greenhouse. It reads your sensors, compares them against the measured requirements of the exact crops you’re growing, and runs your heaters, vents, fans, lights and irrigation to match — around the clock, with your phone in your pocket.

The engine

Four crops in one zone. One climate that suits them all.

Most controllers hold a number you typed in. Sunny works backwards from the plants. Every crop in our catalog carries a measured minimum, ideal and maximum for fifteen separate requirements — and when several crops share a zone, Sunny solves for the window they all tolerate.

Each crop’s tolerance Its ideal The shared window Sunny holds
The rule: the floor is the highest of the minimums and the ceiling is the lowest of the maximums — so the fussiest plant in the zone is never the one that suffers. The aim point is the average of their ideals. If the crops share no overlapping window at all, Sunny says so rather than quietly splitting the difference.

The data

Fifteen numbers behind every decision.

Each one stored as a minimum, an ideal and a maximum — for all 2,894 plants. Add the matching sensor and Sunny closes the loop on it; without one, it still tells you where you stand.

What Sunny runs

Six automations, always on.

Every one of them reads a real sensor, decides against your plants’ ranges, confirms the hardware actually moved, and writes down why.

Ventilation

Every 5 minutes

Opens and closes vents and exhaust fans on temperature first, humidity second — deliberately weighted so a cold, damp zone stays shut instead of chilling your crop to chase moisture.

Opening vents in TomatoesIt’s 31°C — above the 27°C ceiling. Sunny opened the vents to cool the zone.

Climate

Every 5 minutes

Heater, humidifier, dehumidifier and circulation fan, held to the zone’s shared band. Releases at the ideal rather than the limit, so it settles instead of hunting back and forth.

Heating BasilIt’s 12°C — below the 18°C floor. Sunny turned the heater on.

Irrigation

Morning, noon & evening

Waters up to three times a day — at sunrise, midday and evening — and only while the soil is actually below target. Short measured pulses with a minimum gap between them, so roots never sit waterlogged.

Watering PeppersScheduled watering — soil is 15%, below target. Sunny waters up to 3× a day while it’s dry.

Grow lights

Every 5 minutes

Runs the exact day length your crops require, centred on true solar noon for your longitude — so the dark period lands at night no matter where your greenhouse sits or what the clock says.

Grow lights on — LettuceYour plants need a 14 h day. Sunny is running the lights to match.

Weather guard

Hourly

Pulls your local forecast and gets ahead of it — pre-heating before frost lands and adding airflow before a heat spike. You get the warning even if you own no devices at all.

Pre-heating for frostFrost in the forecast — Sunny turned the heater on to protect your plants.

Your own rules

Every minute

Anything Sunny doesn’t already cover, you can define yourself: pick a sensor, a threshold and a device. Checked every sixty seconds alongside everything else.

Custom rule firedCO2 dropped below 600 ppm — Sunny switched on the tagged outlet.

Ahead of the weather

It acts on what’s coming, not just what’s happening.

Sunny reads the hour-by-hour forecast for your exact location and moves before conditions arrive.

Free cooling

When it’s warm inside and the outdoor air is at least 2°C cooler, Sunny opens up and cools with outside air instead of burning power — before the temperature ever reaches the ceiling.

Shuts before the rain

Rain, high wind or a thunderstorm in the next few hours and the vents close early and stay closed — protecting the crop and the structure before the first drop lands.

Opens before the heat

If the forecast peak is about to break your plants’ ceiling, Sunny vents early to head it off — so the zone never spikes and then scrambles to recover.

Nothing happens silently

Every action, with the reason behind it.

Sunny writes down what it switched on, what it switched off, and exactly why — in plain English, with the reading that triggered it. If a device fails to respond, that gets recorded too, rather than being reported as a success.

Every command is confirmed against the hardware: Sunny reads the device back and won’t claim a vent opened unless it actually moved.

Ask Sunny

Type it, or just say it.

Sunny answers questions about your greenhouse — and runs it. Speak a command and it acts immediately, no menus to dig through.

Ask Sunny chat: the user types open the ventilation and Sunny replies Done, opened Electric window opener
“Open the ventilation” — and it opens. Tap the mic to speak instead of typing.

“Open the vents in the tomatoes”

Direct commands, by device, job or zone. Sunny finds the right hardware and confirms it moved.

“It’s too hot in here”

You don’t have to name a device. Sunny reads the zone, works out what will fix it, and does it.

“What’s on right now?”

A live answer from your own devices — what’s running, what’s open, and the current conditions.

What it costs

Automation you can actually budget for.

Sunny shows what its own automations are costing you — broken down by power strip and by socket, from what each outlet is really running. No mystery bill at the end of the month.

Econ mode trades a little plant comfort for lower power: it widens the temperature and humidity bands so the heater, vents and dehumidifier run less, stops running the circulation fan around the clock, and trims grow-light hours toward your plants’ minimum. Your plants stay safe — the equipment just works less.

Per-socket running costs, with Econ mode saving about $27 a month here.

Your greenhouse, run by what your plants actually need.

Sunny comes with the Sun & Steel app. Pair your sensors, tell it what you are growing, and it takes the climate from there.
